Overview
This course is for those who are just starting or about to start their role as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). If you have been a DSL for some time, please attend our refresher course (https://lgfl.bookinglive.com/book/add/p/4)
This course will give time to explore the basic roles, responsibilities, skills and knowledge of a DSL, and we will provide ample time for questions and discussion to ensure all delegates complete the training feeling more confident in their new role.
Who should attend?
This course is suitable for new Designated Safeguarding leads (DSL) and Deputy DSLs who work in LGfL schools.
What will I learn?
The course objectives are to:
- Understand your role and main responsibilities as a designated safeguarding lead (DSL).
- Develop an awareness of the components of an effective safeguarding culture.
- Know how to respond effectively to concerns of abuse and harm.
- Understand the multi-agency safeguarding system, processes and your role as a lead practitioner.
- Know how to respond to allegations/low-level concerns against staff and other professionals.
- Develop an understanding of what Contextual Safeguarding is and how it relates to your role.
It is expected that those who attend this course, will already have attended basic safeguarding awareness training and so will be familiar with content covered within whole-school safeguarding training. Also, please note this course does not cover information about safer recruitment practice.
How will the course be delivered?
This course will be delivered EITHER online or face to face, across one full day. Please check the mode of delivery for the course you are booking. Please note, all participants are expected to engage and be interactive during the course, which means it is the responsibility of participants (when online) to ensure that their microphone and camera are working. The sessions will include polls, group discussions and breakout rooms.
